A new year brings with it the chance to reinvent your style, or just update your wardrobe and be this year's fashionista. After a long holiday filled with indulgence it is time to hit that refresh button and take part in some of the chicest trends from around the world. This 2022 there are trends we’ve seen through the last year and even taking inspiration from the past decades but with a modern twist. Expect to see lots of glitz and glam, underwear as outerwear and lots more of the Y2K fashion movement we saw so much of last year (yes it is here to stay). So whether you are looking to update your work wear, style some night out outfits or just fancy a change I have rounded up the 5 trends you will be seeing a lot of this year.

Y2K Moments

The Y2K fashion shows no sign of going out of fashion, whilst a lot of people were skeptical at first it has certainly turned into an iconic look. I mean Paris Hilton, the queen of Y2K completely agrees. If you need some inspo and opt for anything in the cropped department, small cropped tops are an instant win in the Y2K world, if they have small slogans or throwback pictures it is perfect to style. You can then add a pair of low rise jeans, if they are too daring try boot cuts or flares to style the look. Sunglasses will be your best friend for completing any Y2K outfit, the more out there the better so do not just opt for rounded glasses, try flame shapes, rose tinted or thin rectangles. Tiny heels and bags will be your new go-to accessory, and the smaller the better you don’t want to overpower your killer outfit!

Tiny Tops

Perfect for the Spring and Summer tiny tops such as bralettes or vest will be essential in every 2022 wardrobe. If you fancy a bold look opt for a corset style top with a pair of leather look trousers and a pair of your biggest heels, I find all black makes a statement and always looks classy and chic. If you would like to keep it modest these tops are the perfect base for layering, try taking a small vest and layer under a turtleneck you can then add a pair of mom jeans and add an oversized leather blazer for a grungy look.

Fringe with Benefits

Perfect for those moves when you are out on the dance floor I assure you, you will have heads turning just to watch that fringe sway. There are so many different styles so if you need something for the club try a long slip dress with a long fringe detailing at the bottom, pair with lace up heels and your best jewelry for an eye-catching look. If you want to incorporate the party into your everyday look then choose a statement fringe jacket which can be leather or suede, pair with straight leg jeans, heeled boots and simple top for a look straight out of the wild west.

Bigger the better

The phrase go big or go home definitely applies to this trend, I am talking big sleeves, shoulder pads and lots of ruching. If you need a look for a night out then opt for a ruched dress, this can be around the waist area combined with large sleeves, make sure to go for dresses with a belt to break up the drama, combine with your favourite pair of heels, a simple clutch bag and simple but chic jewellery. Incorporate this trend into your daily looks by having a statement silk shirt with bold sleeves, you can add a pair or jeans or slim fit trousers and a pair of loafers for the perfect day/work outfit.

A Touch of Sparkle

Although the party season is well and truly behind us there is no reason to get rid of the sparkle and glam it was filled with. In fact this year the more sparkle the better and what better was to join in with this trend than styling the sparkly dress you wore at christmas, this time add a leather blazer to create a contrast in materials and add some lace up heels, add diamante jewellery, the bolder the better! For a day time look try subtly adding hints of sparkle through jewellery and handbags, this can elevate any simple outfit.
