Exploring International Marketing with Enterprise Ireland

Exploring International Marketing with Enterprise Ireland

I, along with a few of my colleagues, attended Enterprise Ireland’s International Markets event held in the historic grounds of the RDS in Dublin last week. The event, held over three days, was attended by 650 companies who consulted with 140 advisors from 34 different countries in 2000 + meetings. The focus was on the opportunities in markets across the globe, and while celebrating the progress made by Irish companies in new markets, this was tempered with the obvious challenges for Irish companies posed by the upcoming spectre of Brexit.

Having previously attended the event to deliver a workshop, this year I was keen to spend time talking to the advisors from our target market in North America. We’d previously been in contact with the US advisor for our sector from Enterprise Ireland and had found her incredibly useful in building our strategy for that region – which  included us attending the Customer Contact Week event in the US earlier this year as part of the Irish BPO cluster, Crios Group. We were also able to jointly review the success of our activities so far and outline some detail behind our strategy for the coming 12 months.

I also wanted to expand our research into Canada, so we could develop a more in-depth understanding of the entire North American market. We already work with US companies needing a customer service provider that understands the variations in culture and language of the European region, and we were keen to understand the size of the entire market across North America and get a better view of our potential target customer.

Our conversations with the advisor from Canada were hugely useful and gave us some great insights into the regions in the country that we should be targeting. We were also able to get a better understanding of the tools available to us and our Business Manager will be making use of the Enterprise Ireland research centre in the coming weeks and months.

The event as a whole was really informative, and it was great to get a feel for the buzz in the room. Having all the various Enterprise Ireland advisors in  one venue made for an extremely efficient day – and we’ve found them to be very pragmatic and enthusiastic in the way they’ve offered their support.   Whilst Brexit has its challenges, and there’s understandable concern about what might happen over the coming months and years, it’s good to know that there is such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team to guide Irish businesses, particularly in the early days in new markets across the globe.
