How is Medical education market Positioned in Vietnam?

Vietnam is a country that lies in the lower and middle class income group. The education program in the country are in two forms; six year integrated and four year graduate program. The educational program involves rotational practice and theoretical classes. This is the most traditional method of teaching the students which covers both practical and theoretical aspects but stems its strength from the theoretical courses. All Medical colleges in Vietnam provide Bachelor in Medical Science, however few college contribute in the Master’s Degree for specialized courses such as Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology and Ophthalmology.

Students pursue the course for medical education straight after the high school and go for the six year integrated course which involves medical science and basic sciences. The demand for the physician course is specifically it large and it is in the demand, however the intake for other kinds of Specialized is comparatively lower due their high difficulty level and unstructured admissions procedure.

Most Specialized Courses are offered by the public institutes which have well-structured learning and training modules. Specialization in Vietnam is regarded as residency program which averages at about 3 years or 4 years for some specific courses like neurosurgery. Ophthalmologist are the specialists in the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye. The scope of the ophthalmology residency is wide spread and government is focusing on increasing the numbers of ophthalmologist in the country. A major organizational and statutory problem with Vietnamese education system is the lack of Medical council or regulatory body that facilitates the registration or inoculation of the new doctors in the system. There is no counter measure that tests the quality of the students or their training in the system.

Physician Courses Market Size: Nearly all Medical Colleges provides Physician Course in Vietnam. Any Medical aspiring student has to score minimum of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology as well as go through basic level examination to get admission in the Public or Private Medical Colleges. Every College provides an undergraduate degree which is called Medical Doctor. This is either an integrated course of six years or a graduate degree of four years. The graduates can choose various fields after the completion of the degree. They can either go for research based career or apprenticeship of 1 year or go for their residency programme.

Ophthalmology in traditional terms is not very popular in comparison to other major specializations. But with increase in the eye related disease has pushed for focus on these specialisations.
